GENERAL GUIDELINES OF FOOD PRODUCT LABELING

HEAD OF NATIONAL AGENCY OF DRUG AND FOOD CONTROL RI

Considering:

• a. that food as a commodity requires supports of food circulation and or trade system that is honest and accountable, so that necessary to be regulated and controlled in order that the information on food delivered to the community are correct and not misleading;
• b. that the community is entitled to obtain correct and non misleading information concerning food they will consume, particularly those that are delivered through cable and food advertisement;
• c. that in relation to the aforesaid letters a and b, it is necessary to stipulate General Guidelines of Food Product Labeling with a Decision of the Head of National Agency of Drug and Food Control.

In view of:

• 1. Law No. 23/1992 on Health Affairs (Statute Book of 1992 No. 100, Supplement to Statute Book No.3495);
• 2. Law No. 7/1996 on Food (Statute Book Republic of Indonesia of 1996 No. 99, Supplement to Statute Book No. 3656);
• 3. Law No. 8/1999 on Consumer Protection (Statute Book of the Republic of Indonesia of 1999 No. 42, Supplement to Statute Book No. 3821);
• 4. Government Regulation No. 69/1999 on Food Label and Advertisement (Statute Book Of the Republic of Indonesia of 1999 No. 131, Supplement to Statute Book No. 3867);
• 5. Presidential Decree No. 103/2001 on Status, Duties, Functions, Authorities, Organisational Structure and Work Procedures of Non Departmental Government Institutions as amended by Presidential Decree No. 46/2002;
• 6. Presidential Decree No. 110/2001 on Organisation Unit and Duties of Echelon I in Non Departmental Government Institutions, as amended by Presidential Decree No. 48/2002.

DECIDES:

To stipulate:

First:

DECISION OF THE HEAD OF NATIONAL AGENCY OF DRUG AND FOOD CONTROL ON GENERAL GUIDELINES OF FOOD PRODUCT LABELING.

Second:

To ratify and enact the General Guidelines of Food Product Labeling as attached to this decision.

Third:

Guidelines book as contemplated in secondly dictum as a reference in assessment of food product labels, and inspection of food product labels, and as a reference for the business practitioners in designing food product labels.

Fourth:

This decision shall come to effect 6 (six) months as of the stipulation date.
